Procrastination, Humans and Mothers...

In our daily lives, we have this most important work that we tend to spend time on everyday regardless of how many other things we really need to finish. Procrastination!!! Don't worry. I won't be complaining or giving out some great technique to fight procrastination. It's a never ending fight we are bound to lose one day or other. I think it's the most addictive thing in the world. You can never stop fighting or you are taken under. I have heard of many different techniques and tried some of them too. The latest one that I am trying is something called the 2 Minute Technique . Basically, you do something you really should be doing for 2 minutes. Then inertia takes over and you tend to finish the work before you know it. The thing is, my brain is much cleverer than me. Just when I am about to get over my inertia of procrastinating and get into the mood of getting things done, it distracts me so badly and for so long that I have wasted days without doing nothing...

A Few Eccentricities

For the past few weeks I have been thinking on different topics to write my next post on. But somehow, I could not decide on any one. From thoughts of me sitting in the Walk-in refrigerator of the hotel I work in to the feelings passing through me as I explore new relationships and places in a country so culturally and structurally different from the one I grew up in. But every time I start writing, I end too many sentences short of a publishable post. It seems as days progress, there are much too many changes cropping up in me that I am lost to myself too. Few days I pass time doing nothing but watching movies. Other days I have such deep thoughts that I am startled whenever someone says my name. Just the other day, I was thinking of how lucky I was to have this life. On my paternal side, my grandfather was one of the Village Leaders and one of the first few to step out of the village. My dad studied in a college situated 11 kms from my village and joined the Indian Na...

The Robot and I

Theology and Science are two completely opposite Realms. One depends on beliefs, fear and trust to explain the Universe and its mysteries. While the other uses principles, methods and proofs to do the same. In fact, they can be viewed as two sides of the same coin. Things which could be explained logically with proofs came under Science. Theology, on the other hand, explains everything else in the Cosmic Universe. A common man has a healthy respect for both Theology and Science. Though, some may not bow to the thought of God, they do agree that a Higher Power exists which keeps the Universe running. It is inbred and thus, unavoidable. A person however scientific will have some part of his believing in Theology and every priest, however, orthodox would surely have to bow to the principles of Science in daily life. Theology is a frame of thought which is based upon belief and faith, while Science is based on principles, proofs and methods. Theology makes one humble; Scienc...

If God grants Three Wishes...

Long long ago (no! this isn't a fictitious story!!!), when I was in my sixth grade in Navy Children School, Visakhapatnam,  there was an incident that I am never gonna forget. Instead I wanna share it with you all. As with every good school, NCS also had a School Magazine. And that year it had been named "Footsteps". I remember it well, because it had one of my best articles ever. My class teacher Mrs. Krishna Kumari Mam gave us a few topics and asked each and every one to write a few lines on each of them and submit. One of these topics was "If god grants you three wishes, what would you wish for." Other than this I had written on three other topics and though all of them were published in the magazine, this has always been my favorite. Reason is: I actually started thinking philosophical from this article onward. The article was very short and the boons I listed are as follows: All kinds of Magical Powers Eternal Life (Immortality) ...

Love is Blind! Or is it???

Love.... A feeling that can not be explained... A thrill that can only be experienced... Reading hundreds of novels and stories.... Watching number of movies... And listening to maddeningly romantic songs.... Everything contributed to my impression of that great feeling called "LOVE"!!! But it also caused me to feel bitter as I did not have any lover.... Unfortunately, a fairly common sight nowadays is a girl and a boy enjoying themselves oblivious to everyone around. And the most obvious conclusion: they are lovers!!! And in these couples, I always checked out the guy first. Not because I was interested in him (I am not gay, fellas!!!), but because I wanted to see, what was in that guy, which I do not have... But in the few minutes it took for them to pass me, I could not find anything even remotely attractive in most couples, I saw... (Of course, I thought rather much of myself at those times...) And once they passed me, I would turn back and look at the ...

Ravings of a Frustrated Student...

"Mummy, mummy, may I go for Cricket???" These were the words uttered by Ravi, the only son in an Indian Middle Class Family, a tenth class student. His Mom replied, "What? Again Cricket!!! You were playing cricket the whole of morning. Even yesterday, you played the whole day. Isn't that enough???" As if all the elements were against him today, his Dad enters the room at the same time. He looks at Ravi and says, "Look, son! Your 10th class is a most important milestone in your life. If you clear your 10th with flying colors, your life is as good as settled. So just work hard for these exams and after the exams you can enjoy as much as you want!!" On hearing his father explaining to him in such comforting and soothing words, Ravi feels the importance of his studies and studies hard for his 10th... To his credit, he clears his 10th with such a high score that he can be counted among the best students in his school. I am sure, most of us have gone...
